
Relating to the human condition, they seek to represent more than just the appearance of the subject matter but a sense of something deeper and psychological. What is hidden or absent is often just as important as what is revealed, creating ambiguity and intrigue. An unintentional mark can bring a work to life as it contrasts with the more familiar and predictable components. Subjects can therefore appear in a state of flux.
Often working from life, Fiona may choose to leave out certain features of the figure or even erase them to aid the balance of the composition. Jean-Luc often obscures features or hides them within shadow leaving just an essence showing through. Both processes aim to provoke the viewer to search deeper within and challenge the way we view figurative art.
The exhibition is open daily between 11.00am and 4.00pm (except Sunday & Monday) at The Basement @ Bunyan from Tuesday 10 to Saturday 21 March 2020.
